Andrew McKeever Resigns

The Durham NDP candidate who called an anti-war activist a "fascist bitch" and other derogatory names has called it quits.

Late last night, the NDP issued a statement from Andrew McKeever pulling the plug on his candidacy.

"Because of the repetition of comments I made before becoming a candidate, comments that I have already apologized for and profoundly regret, I can no longer continue as a candidate," McKeever wrote. "This ceaseless repetition is damaging to everyone concerned including those I have hurt ... I cannot allow my candidacy to detract from the important decisions Canadians must make."

Whatever the genesis of this decision (whether initiated by the candidate or the party) it is the right thing to do. Now the last man standing among candidates who bared their hearts on little too thoroughly on-line is Ryan Warawa, Tory hopeful in Vancouver East, with his possible libel and pornographic ramblings. He too should go.

Steve V from the comments:

See, they are ready to govern. The NDP has already mastered the late Friday bad news dump. Very clever Jack.

Finally!
Seems to have taken the Nazi guards "waxing the prisoners" quote, as reaction to all the earlier quotes fell on deaf NDP ears.

It will be fun to watch Robert McClelland and his other defenders fall into line.

However, this is not good enough. The NDP has not - and apparently will not - admit that this lowlife is not and never was an acceptable candidate.

McKeever is, was, and likely always will be a right-wing, bigoted, misogynist piece of shit. He never belonged in the NDP or any other major party. Why can't the NDP bring itself to admit that?

Q: " Why can't the NDP bring itself to admit that?"

A: LAYTON.

It will take a different leader to exhibit the necessary principles to condemn McKeever's words. Layton is not that kind of man.

The NDP took a pounding on Mike Dufffy live over this last night and it even managed to steal the spotlight away from the new Liberal video comparing Mike Harris to Harper so I guess the NDP spin masters thought it was time to pull the plug on the whole sorry affair.

Huh, whazzat? Sorry, I don't have time to fall in line. I'm too busy defending Lesley Hughes against false accusations of anti-semitism over at the National Disgrace.

If you really want to help Lesley Hughes, I suggest you join those accusing her.

You're as much help to her as Marc Lemire has been to FreeDominion.

I'm sure you do believe I should join the witch-hunt. All witch-hunters do. But unlike you I prefer to judge a person based on more than two sentence fragments that only look bad if you completely misrepresent what they really say.

Only person I'm judging is you, based on your statements right here on this issue. I'm not making any judgment on Lesley Hughes. I'm merely stating that the best way for you to help anyone, accused of anything, is to join their accusers since the accusations will immediately lose credibility by virtue of the fact that you're making them.

I've taken nothing out of context at all. You said what you had to say, and I judged you on the revolting things you said.

You, on the other hand, have jumped to a completely erroneous conclusion about me, based not even on two sentence fragments, but on wishful thinking you pulled right out of your own asshole.

Yeah, Dawg, I wish I knew how to move that one further along but I'm out of ideas.

You must be not know too much about Asda Story gold. My classmate gave me some Asda Story money, he said that I could buy Asda Story Gold, but I did not have money, then I played it all my spare time. From then on, I got some cheap Asda Story gold.
Once I played 2moons, I did not know how to get strong, someone told me that you must have 2moons dil. He gave me some 2moons gold, he said that I could buy 2moons dil, but I did not have money, then I played it all my spare time. From then on, I got some 2moon dil, if I did not continue to play it, I can sell cheap 2moons gold to anyone who want.
