However, Garth's post is in itself more than a little offensive. He writes:
But, but, but, this is an issue that Dion needs to address and clarify. If he thinks he’s got the remotest chance of becoming the Canadian prime minister, then the appropriate thing to do is give up that French wad and stay as a simple colonial. It may be cool on campus to be a citizen of the world, or at least the world’s most self-possessed country, but in cold Ottawa, we stay vanilla.
Personally, I think the correct response to any Conservative demanding that Dion give up his French citizenship is to tell them to blow it out their nose. For, if Dion's loyalty is not in question, and Garth says it is not, then exactly what would such a move "clarify"? And to whom? The likes of Garth? The like of Ezra? Sorry, but in this country the fringe justifies itself before the mainstream, and not vice-versa.
I also think Ezra ought to show a bit of class and apologize in writing. Not that I expect that to happen.

He is a French citizen because his mother is from France.
He was born in Canada making him a Canadian citizen.
Ezra Levant is a man totally without class. He is a Rush Limbaugh wannabe so do not expect him to apologize for anything.
All that being said I certainly hope the Conservatives pursue this line of attack. I cannot think of anything that will turn off all but the most parochial, neo-conservative wingnuts than to question Mr. Dion's loyalty just because his mom was born in another country.
